A payroll engine you can read.
Payroll periods and runs, pay items, levies and tax tables, deduction schedules, multi-period runs, disbursements and GL posting.
Payroll in Portal is driven by rules written in PXL, a small typed formula language made for pay calculations: integers, decimals, dates, lookups and loops with a fixed budget, so a run is deterministic and auditable line by line. For the rare case a formula is not enough, sandboxed scripts can be attached.
Country packs provide the levies, tax tables and statutory items for a jurisdiction. Runs can cover several months at once, produce payslips through the report designer, create disbursements and post to the ledger.
Payroll in detail
Periods and runs
A period calendar per company, runs per period or across several periods, with recalculation and locking.
Pay items and levies
Earnings, deductions, employer levies and tax tables defined as data, versioned by effective date.
PXL formula language
Typed, deterministic formulas for every rule. No hidden rounding: one rounding implementation is shared by formulas and configured levies.
Deduction schedules
Loans, advances and recurring deductions scheduled over periods and settled automatically.
Payslips and posting
Payslips designed in the report designer, disbursements to bank, and journals posted through posting profiles.
Common questions about Payroll
Can we see how a figure was calculated?
Every result line keeps the rule, inputs and intermediate values that produced it, so an auditor can follow the calculation without re-running it.
Do we need a developer to change a rule?
No. Rules are PXL formulas edited in the browser with validation and a test runner. Scripts exist for edge cases and are restricted to users with the script authoring role.
